Tree Hugger: Green Foundations

Perfect timing! The TreeHugger blog has a feed this week regarding green foundations, with a couple of how-to diagrams. There seems to be a debate going about how long a foundation should last and just how you should build to minimize the impact on the land.

  2. In 2004 while traveling from Sydney Australia to Melbourne to see my one year old daughter after 3 months of being away from me, i wrote a story for her 'Little Seed'.

That Christmas i painted the plates for the book as a present for my daughter, Bodhi.

In 2006 Little Seed was published by Pan Mcmillan in Australia.

The initial idea for Little Seed was to create a series of books, each with a unique story about Little Seed adventures, searching’s and questions.
Each book would be set within the different regions of the world, ie: Lt Seed America... Africa... Asia... India... UK... Northern Europe... Mediterranean... South America... Middle East.

At the time it was to big an idea for Pan Mcmillan Publishing.

I had also wanted to launch the book on National Tree Planting day and to find a seed company who would produce Little Seed packets to distribute with the books.

Since then i have Illustrated and written with writer Justin Monjo, Little Seed America and have a agent in New York.

as my concerns for the environment and the planet I leave for my daughter and her generation and the ones to come I feel it is time to complete the series and publish the books.

My hope has always been that Little Seed would follow on my family tradition of planting a tree when a child was born, and nurturing that bond through ones life; and to encourage my daughter in the connection her name was drawn from (Bodhi) and in understanding the immense world that lives from, in, off, with and around trees.

My wish is this, to raise $20,000
To travel to each region to study, talk and meet the people and their trees and the unique habitats they live within (on this trip i would sketch, photograph and write)

To create the series of paintings and write the text for the books

    To create a web site

To start a foundation similar to Dallas Clayton (The Awesome Book) where for every book sold one is given as a gift; my believe is every country has children that are struggling either financially or socially, to gift them with beautiful picture books that also help them to reach out to the environment around them, to empower them with colour, with story, with imagination, and with knowledge may hopefully help them to nurture the very things that give us life.
I would hope that a seed company would also help by handing out with the books indigenous seed packets.

Why am I writing to you, because you are a foundation that cares about trees, education, support, poverty, and rehabilitation and believe, believe that we can make a difference.
This is my idea, I have the artistic ability, I have the Inspiration and I have the believe and now I am looking for those who may help turn this from a dream into a reality.

I am a visual artist and film maker, over the past 27 years from my apprenticeship as a commercial artist, to my degree in theatre and film design at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts, my career as a designer and then writing and directing films, to exhibiting as a visual artist it has been nature that has inspired my work, the poetic, the sensual world.

Little Seed has spurn new projects like painting plastic tree with my daughters school, colouring a sea of dull plastic into a public art work, encouraging children to tell of their stories and to help them personalize the nurturing of a tree, giving them pride as well as understanding and education.
Since pouring the first paintings in a high gloss acrylic polymer paint I have created 4 more children's books on animals; currently I am in development with ABC Australia and CBBC UK with a pre school animation series 'Sunny Time Zoom Zoom' created in the same style as Little Seed.

if Little Seed helps children open up to not only language and geography, then my gift will come full circle.

    Thank you for your time
    Gav
